Get Tested — If You Are Not Vaccinated

If you are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, or chose not to disclose your vaccination status to UBC, you are required to get a rapid test once a week.

Rapid testing is only available to those who are symptom-free. Rapid testing is not available for people who tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days.

To book a rapid testing appointment, click here. Appointments are required (no walk-ins), and you will need to bring photo ID and your Provincial Health Number.

There is one mandatory rapid testing clinic on each campus (UBCO & UBCV) — locations and hours are provided in the online appointment website.

Get Tested — If You Are Asymptomatic

The Covid-19 Rapid Testing Research Study at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre is available to all asymptomatic individuals — regardless of vaccination status — who live, work, or study at UBC, and are between the ages of 16 - 80.

If you are currently experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 30 days, you cannot participate in this study.

The rapid testing site at IKB is voluntary, and is completely separate from UBC's mandatory COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program for those who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

This rapid test is under review by Health Canada, and in order to get tested, you will be required to consent to participate in the study, as well as to the collection of research data.

The test itself involves a self-administered nasal swab — a clinical team will be available to answer questions and assist you with sample collection.

The testing site is located on the second floor of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre (Rooms 263 - 266) and is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00AM - 12:30PM and 2:00PM - 4:30PM.

To book an appointment, register for a Thrive Health account using the registration code UBC-RapidTest2 and schedule an appointment online.

You will need to complete some surveys on UBC Qualtrics prior to your first visit to the clinic. On the day of your appointment, bring your student/ employee UBCcard, your Provincial Health Number, and reading glasses if required.

Read more about the testing process here.

Get Tested —  If You Are Symptomatic

If you are symptomatic, you must undergo PCR testing at a VCH designated site. Student Health Services and UBC Hospital Urgent Care can also complete PCR testing, but have limited capacity.
